Ealing youngsters to benefit from HS2 Community Fund award for summer basketball programme

London-based charity Ball Out Community aims to use basketball to create a positive environment, enhance community cohesion, bring local residents together, and provide an active deterrent from anti-social and negative behaviour.

It has secured a CEF (Community and Environment Fund) grant to provide a grassroots summer basketball participation programme through coaching and also deliver a 3x3 basketball tournament.

Thirteen projects in London have received support since the funding programme opened for applications in March 2017. Other community groups that have benefitted include the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust who last month were confirmed to have received £74,380 to create peace and healing gardens at Harefield hospital to enhance the wellbeing of patients in their care.

As construction gets underway, applications for the funds are still being welcomed. The Funds for Phase One, independently administered by community charity Groundwork UK, support urban and rural, community, environmental and business projects.

Community and Business Funds

Our Community and Environment Fund (CEF) and the Business and Local Economy Fund (BLEF) for Phase One are worth £40 million. They give local communities and businesses disrupted by the construction of HS2 the opportunity to receive funding of up to £1 million for projects to improve their local area or support their local economy.

The community and business funds are administered and managed by independent community charity, Groundwork UK. For more information on Groundwork and the funds, including how to apply, visit https://hs2funds.org.uk/ .You can also watch our short videos which explain how to best demonstrate that your project meets the criteria for the Community, Environment or Business Funds.
