News on HS2 in Kilburn & Northolt

We are working closely with our construction partners to review the works on all our construction sites in line with Government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with Covid-19. The Government’s current Covid-19 strategy makes clear that construction activity can continue as long as it complies with this guidance, which you can see by clicking here .

The below work is going ahead as our contractors are confident that they can operate in line with PHE and industry guidance, protecting our staff and the communities in which they are working.

From 3 August 2020, we will start to set up our worksite at Mandeville Road as we start the construction of the new ventilation shaft.

The following activities will take place at this site during the rest of 2020:

• setting up the site compound with security fencing, temporary offices and welfare facilities;

• delivery of material and equipment, including welfare facilities, temporary offices and large excavation equipment;

• repairs made to the access road and the area that will hold vehicles; and

• connection of utility services.

All this activity is taking place on the old Affinity Water site, that will be reached by the access road opposite Northolt Underground station. As work begins you will notice a gradual increase in both staff and lorries using the site. We are developing a more detailed design for Phase One of the railway, following the appointment of our main works contractors. The design process helps us to plan and prepare for the construction of Britain’s new high speed railway. The Mandeville Road Ventilation Shaft is a Key Design Element, which means it is a significant structure. We want it to respect its surroundings and the local area as much as possible.
